The Dishonorable Miss DeLancey

GIVEAWAY
MILLER, CAROLYN
THE DISHONORABLE MISS DELANCEY

Regency Brides : A Legacy of Grace

Tainted by scandal and forced to leave London for the quiet of Brighton, the Honorable Miss Clara DeLancey is a shadow of her former society self. A chance encounter brings her a healing friendship with the sisters of an injured naval captain. But Clara's mama, the Viscountess Winpoole, is appalled as the new company she's keeping.

Captain Benjamin Kemsley is not looking for a wife. But his gallant spirit won't let him ignore the penniless viscount's daughter -- not when she so obviously needs to be rescued from the despair that threatens her from day to day. Can he protect his heart and still keep her safe?

When they're pushed into the highest echelons of society at the Prince Regen'ts Brighton Pavilion, this mismatched couple must decide if family honor is more important than their hopes. Can they right the wrongs of the past and find future happiness together -- without finances, family support, or royal favor?

The Dishonorable Miss DeLancey is full of the captivating, flawed characters, fascinating historical details, and masterful writing that Carolyn Miller's fans have come to expect.

My Review:

Alas, we have reached the end of this stunning debut Regency series and I should be wallowing in a woe-is-me-my-reading-nirvana-has-come-to-an-end-blues but some amazing news has pulled me out of my funk -- Carolyn Miller's NEW Regency series, Regency Brides : A Promise of Hope Book 1 releases in Spring 2018. I can almost wish Christmas over so I'll be able to read it sooner. :-)

At last we get Clara's story. For those who have read The Elusive Miss Ellison, you will recognize Clara as 'the other woman' who caused such concern for Lavinia and Nicholas. I enjoyed being righteously indignant over Clara's behaviour in that first book so did I really want to read an entire novel featuring her as a heroine? Well, yes, if Carolyn Miller is writing it! And, by the way, you don't need to have read The Elusive Miss Ellison in order to enjoy The Dishonorable Miss DeLancey but you just might feel it more if you have.

So Clara finds herself on the fringes of society after the 'scandal.' She is completely at the mercy of the gossiping 'ton'. And it doesn't help that her brother has made matters worse with his behaviour. Banished to Brighton for a time, she encounters the Kemsleys. The Captain (insert euphoric swooning and furious fanning here) and his sisters. Once again, Miller enchants with period dialogue and all its subtle nuances. The half-crooked smile, a simmering glare, a soft sigh of longing. It's no wonder my ecstatic readerly sighs ruffled pages all the way through. Simply exquisite.

And inspiring. I love the way this author incorporates a solid faith thread into her stories. Never stilted or preachy but unapologetically brazen in declaring the truth about Grace. Clara has a lot to learn about that and the Kemsley's are just the kind of friends willing to teach and share.

A stupendous conclusion to one of the best Regency series ever!

  13. There's just something very appealing about a good Regency romance, perhaps since it is so very unlike the lives we lead today. The Dishonorable Miss Delancey is another book I'd love to read. Thanks for the review and giveaway.

    1. And the author does such an amazing story of making Clara an appealing heroine for all the grief she caused in that first book -- though, honestly, it all wasn't her fault. Good luck, Mindy.

  19. I almost missed this yesterday doing battle with a relentless kidney stone. Gasp! Was too sick to even concentrate on my new Denise Hunter book last night (one I missed), can you imagine? 😨 Ugh. I have the 1st and 2nd books, but would you believe I can't even remember Clare? I'll skim TEME to refresh my memory bc it's been awhile since I read it. Do kidney stones affect your memory? 😰 Thanks, Kav. Great review! Now back to bed. 😟

    2. Diana - I'm so sorry. I've had a couple of kidney stones in my lifetime. The first one when I was pregnant and I can honestly say it was worse than childbirth. My empathetic and heartfelt prayers for you.

    3. Kav and Terrill, thank you for your prayers and well wishes. I'm thankful that so far this one hasn't sent me to the ER. The last one did and they gave me a morphine drip... that's how much pain I was in. This one seems to be responding to aspirin and ibuprofen. Not fun! 😥
