The Amish Midwife's Courtship

GIVEAWAY

WILLIFORD, CHERYL
THE AMISH MIDWIFE'S COURTSHIP

An arranged romance

Molly Ziegler is proud of being a successful midwife. But at age twenty-one, she's unmarried -- and fodder for gossip in her Amish community. Even as her meddling mother urges her to marry the town's most eligible bachelor, Molly wants more. And in newcomer Isaac Gruber, she's found her way out. If Isaac will pretend to court her, her mother has to stop matchmaking -- once and for all. What Molly didn't plan on are the unexpected feelings the businessman stirs in her. Isaac will go along with Molly's ruse. Especially since he can't stop thinking about her. But when the favor backfires spectacularly, it might just lead them toward true love.

My Review:

Grumpy meets grouchy in this Pinecraft Amish romance. There are some great sniping scenes. LOL Lots of cranky on both sides as Molly and Isaac deal with challenges in their lives. Their first meet is so much fun. Something about a disgruntled and discombobulated hero being given what for by an opinionated heroine. There's no way to hide that Molly is strong-willed. And she might need to learn to count to ten before speaking her mind sometimes. But she also has a kind and giving heart and is a woman of action when it comes to good deeds. Isaac comes to the Amish community in Florida to escape the pain of his past. He's looking for peace, not a whirlwind of femininity that knocks him off his feet both literally and figuratively! Hearts collide in the most unexpected way as these two battle their way to a happily ever after.

Roads to Danger : Family secrets resurface

My Review:

A heroine with Ninja James Bond driving skills. Car chases worthy of an action movie. A heroine who knows her own mind and doesn't back down from a fight. A hero who is sworn to serve and protect and is determined to do so whether the lady is willing or not. Uber bad guys galore and enough suspense and romance to guarantee you'll devour Blindsided in one fell swoop. I did.

And just an FYI, this is the second book in the Roads to Danger series. It reads perfectly fine as a standalone, but there are some familiar characters to become reacquainted with if you are a fan of Silent Pursuit, including an update on Lacey and Wade which was a fun bonus.

Like a River From Its Course

GIVEAWAY

STUART, KELLI
LIKE A RIVER FROM ITS COURSE

Enter the often-overlooked history of World War II Ukraine as told through the eyes of four unforgettable people caught up in the chaos and heartache of a country torn asunder by Nazi armed forces.

As the characters confront the pivotal event of Babi Yar, the "killing ditch" where 34,000 men, women and children were lined up and shot, the horrors of war are laid bare. How can faith withstand such atrocities?

Based on true stories gathered from fifteen years of research and interviews with survivors, Like a River from Its Course is a moving and epic story of love, war, heartache, forgiveness, and redemption.

My Review:

The kind of story that seeps into your bones and makes your heart hurt and rejoice all that the same time. Gripping. Evocative. Raw. This isn't a novel for the faint of heart, but it is one that deserves to be read and celebrated in memory of the many victims and survivors of the atrocities inflicted on the Ukrainian people by a brutal Nazi regime.

Heartbreaking tales told from the perspective of four main characters. The first person, present tense narrative isn't my favourite point of view to read, but it worked really well in this instance. Rushed me right into scenes that felt so urgent I was left holding my breath and gritting my teeth for most of the read.

The author has done extensive research and these four lives are inspired by true stories of real survivors. That's what makes this book so startling, I think -- the fact that events like these actually happened. That real people survived and lived to bear witness to what happened to them and those they loved.

Yes, Like a River from its Course is a sombre read. My heart was heavy when I finally closed the book. I couldn't help but make parallels to the modern world we live in and am still wondering if we have actually learned anything from that horrid war and the actions of the maniac who started it all. That's why books like this one -- the kind that reach into a reader's heart to testify of both pain and hope -- are so important.

At the time of the German occupation, Ukraine had already born the ravages of a revolution that destroyed their churches. Priests were killed or sent to work camps in Siberia, churches turned into public buildings so the spiritual landscape is bleak at the start of this novel. But the author still manages to incorporate a soul-stirring faith thread in the midst of turbulence and heartache.

"We are openly discussing God in a place that not so long ago killed many of my friends for similar conversations. God cannot be suppressed under the evil of man. The world is harsh and cruel and full of pain. But God is real. The Holy Spirit and Mary and the saints -- they're real. To believe is to trust, and when you trust, your life has meaning and purpose outside of the mere endurance of hardship."
(p. 263)

And perhaps my most favourite quote from a longsuffering, all-believing priest: "You would be surprised, my friend, at the power in believing in something outside of yourself. When you acknowledge that the pain of this world is unbearable, you're able to finally surrender to the One who alone is worthy of carrying the weight." (p. 263)

Startling truths and riveting fiction. A definite must read.

My thanks to Kregel Publications and Litfuse Publicity Group for providing me with a copy of this book.

Sea Rose Lane

GIVEAWAY

HANNON, IRENE
SEA ROSE LANE

Two people starting over...in a town known for second chances

After a devastating layoff, attorney Eric Nash heads back to Hope Harbor -- only to discover that his childhood home is being transformed into a bed and breakfast. Instead of plotting his next career move in peace, he's constantly distracted by noise, chaos -- and BJ Stevens, the attractive but prickly blonde architect who's invaded the house with her motely crew. As for BJ, her client's son might be handsome, but after a disastrous romance, dating isn't high on her agenda. Yet when they join forces to help Hope Harbor's older residents, might they also find healing, hope, and a new beginning themselves?

Come home to Hope Harbor -- where hearts heal...and love blooms

My Review:

I adore this series. Each book reads as a standalone but I love the continuity the familiar folks from Hope Harbor bring to each story. I especially adore Charley who crops up at the most convenient times with words of wisdom or silent acceptance as needed. There's something divinely inspiring about that man and his way with people...and critters.

So, as first meets go, this one is a bust. Well, it's fun for the reader but not so much for BJ and Eric. Talk about making a bad first impression -- on both sides. Kind of light-hearted with undercurrents of angst. Not to mention instant awareness. The words fairly crackle off the page as these two muddle through their first scene. Thing is, both have blinders on so their next meet and the one after that and...well, let's just say there are a lot of missteps before they sort out a wary truce. Scrumptious to read!

Told from multiple points of view, Hannon weaves together a compelling story of loss and heartache. There are some edge-of-your-seat moments where I hardly dared breathe as I watched events unfold before my eyes. I love how this author meshes diverse threads into a triumphant conclusion that celebrates the hope being in relationship with God can bring. And she's an expert at throwing out unexpected zings of humour that always catch me off guard and have me laughing out loud.

Sea Rose Lane is a slice of real life and the whole gamut of emotions that entails. Cue the Kleenex box and chocolate bonbons. You'll need a hefty dose of both as you navigate your way through the pages of this book. Besides -- how can you not want to read a book that features a belching seal named Caspar? Doesn't that little juicy tidbit have you salivating for more? :-)

Girl Defined : God's Radical Design for Beauty, Femininity and Identity

GIVEAWAY

CLARK, KRISTIN
BAIRD, BETHANY
GIR DEFINED : GOD'S RADICAL DESIGN FOR BEAUTY, FEMININITY AND IDENTITY

What is God's design for women?

In a culture where airbrushed models and ultra-driven career women define beauty and success, it's no wonder we have a distorted view of femininity. Girl Defined offers a distinctly God-centered view of beauty, femininity, and self-worth. Based firmly in God's design for our lives, this book invites us on a liberating journey toward a radically better vision for femininity -- one that ends with the kind of hope, purpose, and fulfillment we've been yearning for.

My Review:

I don't think there has been a more confusing time to be a woman. For all our women's rights advancement, society is struggling with the key concepts of what femininity means...or doesn't mean! The authors have done a marvellous job of presenting fresh perspective and friendly encouragement as they tackle worldly concepts vs biblical ones.

While marketed for teens and young women, I think Girl Defined reaches a broader audience. No matter what our age it's hard to keep from becoming entrenched in society's ideal of womanhood. The popularity of all types of media has the potential to make women of all ages victims of their 'false advertising.' Baird and Clark begin their book with that identifiable moment in every girl's life where she recognizes the desire "to be beautiful and valued by the people around her." And I don't think we become immune to that desire as we age.

"Instead of turning to God's word first and allowing him to inform our worldview on gender, many of us do the opposite." ( p. 67)

The authors present compelling points in an engaging manner and then turn it over to the reader with challenges to pray about issues in their own lives.  Each chapter's study guide asks a few pointed questions to help the reader make an honest assessment. The key is to be true to yourself as you ponder and pray over each one. I love the way the authors encourage girls (and women) to take charge instead of allowing the world to define them.

Delilah : Treacherous Beauty

GIVEAWAY

HUNT, ANGELA
DELILAH : TREACHEROUS BEAUTY

A complex and compelling glimpse at one of the bible's most notorious women.

Life is not easy in Philestine, especially not for a woman and child alone. When beautiful, wounded Delilah finds herself begging for food to survive, she resolves that she will find a way to defeat all the men who have taken advantage of her. She will overcome the roadblocks life has set before her, and she will find riches and victory for herself.

When she meets a legendary man called Samson, she senses that in him lies the means for her victory. By winning, seducing and betraying the hero of the Hebrews, she will attain a position of national prominence. After all, she is beautiful, she is charming, and she is smart. No man, not even a supernaturally gifted strongman, can beat her in a war of wits.

My Review:

I have become a fan of this author's ability to transform simple bible stories into something of substance. Hunt's exquisite writing brings this time period to life and, yes, that involves her very vivid imagination, but it's easy to see where fact ends and fiction begins.

Now Samson and Delilah is probably my least favourite account in the whole bible so I hesitated before picking this title to review. But seriously, that hauntingly beautiful cover proved irresistible. And I'm so glad I read out of my comfort zone! Do I like Samson and Delilah any better after reading Delilah : Treacherous Beauty? Not really, but I've been convicted of two really powerful truths. First, God can use the most flawed person to achieve His ends and second, instead of making snap judgments about people we'll likely be surprised...and moved...if we look deeper into the reasoning behind questionable actions. Both are great takeaways to apply in everyday life.

Through the author's creative embellishments I was able to see beyond the rote bible story and into the complexities of living, breathing people struggling to find their way. Something I can totally relate to. Definitely a thought provoking read.

A Match Made in Alaska

GIVEAWAY

CALHOUNE, BELLE
A MATCH MADE IN ALASKA

A small-town rescue

Librarian Annie Murray hoped participating in Love, Alaska's "Operation Love" would lead to finding a rugged bachelor to call her own. But as her flight crash-lands before reaching her destination, she finds herself alone with her pilot, Declan O'Rourke. Annie's met charmers like Declan before -- now she wants a man of substance. Forced to survive with him in the snowy wilderness, Annie discovers Declan's depth -- and he begins to see the shy librarian's heart of gold. But once back in town, outside forces threaten their bond. It'll take all the bravery they had in the wild for Annie and Declan to find love in small-town Alaska.

Alaskan Grooms: Meeting their matches in Love, Alaska

My Review:

Love a good family series and this one certainly fits the bill. And the whole modern-day mail-order bride twist is so much fun. Annie is on the adventure of her life -- a librarian with spunk. Sqqueealll...yes, I said librarian. Does anyone else swoon when library personnel take front and centre in a story? No? It's just me? Must be an occupation hazard. Well, anyway, I adore the librarian angle. And the fact that Annie's self-sufficiency comes from the pages of books. That girl knows how to do her research and it comes in handy a time or two.

Declan is definitely an opposites attract kind of hero. He loves women and he loves to flirt and sass them but he's not too keen on settling down...ever. But Annie was raised by her grandmother and longs to for the security of a warm and loving two parent family. She's looking for adventure and romance and Declan's just the man to give her both...maybe.

Love, laughter and faith combine to make this a heartwarming read.

The Reluctant Duchess

GIVEAWAY

WHITE, ROSEANNA M.
THE RELUCTANT DUCHESS

Lady Rowena Kinnaird may be the heiress to a Highland earldom, but she's never felt good enough -- not for her father, not for the man she though she'd marry, not for God. But after a shocking attack, she's willing to be forever an outcast if it means escaping those threatening for her life.

Brice Myerston, the Duke of Nottingham, has never been one to shy away from manor-born ladies, yet the last thing he needs is the distraction of the newly introduced Lady Rowena. He has enough on his plate having recently come into possession of a rare treasure for which many would kill, yet those around him seem intent on pairing him with this desperate but beguiling girl.

Rowena is reluctant to marry this notorious flirt. And when she learns that Brice is mixed up in some kind of questionable business with a stolen treasure, she fears she'll end up in more danger than she fled.

My Review:

It is really hard to read a book when you have melted into a puddle of goo over the hero. Seriously, there's no where for your glasses to rest for one thing. And you have to keep taking breaks to try to solidify yourself. And reading The Reluctant Duchess in a heat wave? Not advisable. Because Brice is undoubtedly one of the most delectable heroes I have met in a long time. He'd give Prince Charming a run for his money in charmingness. Flirtatious -- oh my -- start fanning yourself now. He's clever and witty and perhaps a little too sure of himself where women are concerned. No worries of an inflated ego though. Rowena takes care of that. :-) And the thing I love most about him? He is unapologetically faith-filled. A man who follows the promptings of the Spirit even when they don't make sense.

Rowena has been brutalized by the men in her life so she doesn't quite recognize what a gem Brice is. She's always looking for his angle. Fueling her anger over past injustices and taking them out on him. So reluctant to trust. Unwilling to believe that God could ever notice her so she is utterly confused by Brice's faith. Another barrier to keep them apart. And she's an expert at putting up barriers. One after the other until Brice gently tells her that he expects nothing but that she be the woman God made her to be. And then he gives her the freedom to do just that.

Honestly, the way faith is woven into the foundation of this story is astounding. And just because Brice allows himself to be led by the Spirit doesn't mean he always gets it right. Especially where Rowena is concerned. But what a sweet, joyous experience it was to watch her take those first tentative steps toward a relationship with God. Not only did my romance loving heart sing over this book but my inspiration seeking soul was nurtured as well.

And then there's the Highland location, the rich Gaelic folklore, a full cast of intriguing characters, some of whom we met in The Lost Heiress! Serious intrigue, sinister enemies, a priceless treasure that may or may not be cursed. What more could you ask for in a book? Except maybe exquisite historical details, witty banter, toe-curling romance....well, you get the idea. The Reluctant Duchess is pretty much this bibliophile's idea of sweet perfection.

Honor and Defend

GIVEAWAY
EASON, LYNETTE
HONOR AND DEFEND

A perilous reunion

Framed for a crime he didn't commit. Lee Earnshaw is two weeks out of prison when an ex-con tries to kill him and his former love, K-9 rookie cop Ellen Foxcroft. Recognizing their attacker as a man he met in prison, Lee knows he must be the intended target. But is the shooter settling a score, or does Lee have something he wants? Determined to start over, training puppies and maybe getting a second chance with Ellen, Lee vows to keep both of them safe. But as they investigate together, Ellen's golden retriever partner at their side, they find themselves dead center in a killer's crosshairs.

Rookie K-9 Unit: These lawmen solve the toughest cases with the help of their brave canine partners

My Review:

Another installment of the Rookie K-9 Unit continuity series and I'm chomping at the bit to see if my suspicions are valid in the over-arcing suspense thread. You don't need to have read the first three to enjoy this one, but it sure is fun to speculate!

Is there anything cuter than Golden Retriever puppies? I think not! And there are three in this story! And a hunky hero who just also happens to be a dog trainer. Serious heart palpitations! Lee's determined to take his life back...and that includes resuming his ill-fated romance with Ellen. She's intent on crime solving so she can finally escape her home town for good. There's no room in her life for opening her heart to anyone, let alone ex-boyfriend, Lee. Besides, she feels way too guilty over the way she treated him. Life gets even more complicated when they become targets of illusive predators.

Lots of action and intrigue balanced by sweet romance made me a very happy romantic suspense reader.

The Ringmaster's Wife

GIVEAWAY

CAMBRON, KRISTY
THE RINGMASTER'S WIFE

An ounce of courage. A leap of faith. Together, they propel two young women to chase a new life -- one that's reimagined from what they might have become.

In turn-of-the-century America, a young girl dreams of a world that stretches beyond the confines of a quiet life on the family farm. With little more than her wit and a cigar box of treasures, Mable steps away from all she knows, seeking the limitless marvels of the Chicago World's Fair. There, a chance encounter triggers her destiny -- a life with a famed showman by the name of John Ringling.

A quarter of a century later, Lady Rosamund Easling boards a ship to American as a last adventure before her arranged marriage. There, the twenties are roaring and the rich and famous gather at opulent, Gatsby-esque parties. The Jazz Age has arrived, and with it, the golden era of the American circus, whose queen is none other than the enigmatic Mable Ringling.

When Rosamund's path crosses with Mable's and the Ringling's glittering world, she makes the life-altering decision to leave behind a comfortable future of estates and propriety, choosing instead the nomadic life of a trick rider in the Ringling Brother's circus.

A novel that is at once captivating, deeply poignant, and swirling with exquisite historical details of a bygone world, The Ringmaster's Wife will escort readers into the center ring, with its bright lights, exotic animals, and a dazzling performance that can only be described as the Greatest Show on Earth!

My Review:

A unique blend of biography and fiction makes this a truly captivating read. Cambron's talent for bringing history to life really enhances the story. I was as enamoured with the real life hero and heroine as I was with the fictional ones. And the circus setting makes a magnificent and unusual backdrop for both romance and mystery.

The Ringmaster's Wife is divided into time periods -- not really a dual timeline kind of book though -- more like flashbacks that bring Mable and John's story up to the 1920's where they mesh with Rosamund's. I was a bit confused at the beginning so just make sure to read the chapter headings which distinguish time and location and that will keep things clear.

This is a book with two distinct heroines who require equal billing. And interesting to note that their stories are exact opposites in some respects. Mable goes from rags to riches -- a poor farm girl with nothing but dreams who sets out to make something of her life and ends up romanced by a wealthy showman. Through her marriage to John, she becomes one of America's 'royalty'. Meanwhile, Rosamund comes from British titled wealth but shrugs off her perfect pedigree in order to chase her own dreams. I love the fact that both women set out to live the life of their choosing --- not the one society tries to foist upon them. And, of course, the exceptional men who encourage them.

Though this novel lacks an inspirational thread, there is a wonderful motivational message about finding the courage to follow your dreams. Both Mable and Rosamund overcome incredible odds to achieve their goals. I adored the wisdom that comes from Mable's life experience. She never takes on airs but is always open to providing opportunities to assist people to rise above their circumstances. She plays such a pivotal role in the lives of both Colin and Rosamund. I love the way her generous spirit brought out the best in both of them. Everyone needs someone to believe in them the way Mable does.

A fascinating glimpse into the drama, tragedy and triumphs of life under the big top.

My thanks to Thomas Nelson and Litfuse Publicity for providing me with a copy of this book.

Butterfly Palace

GIVEAWAY

COBLE, COLLEEN
BUTTERFLY PALACE

Elegance and wealth. Privilege and politics. The extravagance of Butterfly Palace overwhelmed Lily's senses and nearly smothered her painful memories. She pushed away her misgivings...she was perfectly safe in this huge house.

Austin, Texas 1904. Abandoned by the love of her life and still mourning the loss of her mother, Lily Donaldson has turned her back on the pain and come to Austin for a fresh start, working for the Marshall family as a kitchen maid in their luxurious mansion. The tasks before her are legion, and her mistress less than pleasant, but at least Lily's new life will be, if nothing else, distracting.

Then one night, while serving at a dinner party, Lily recognizes the man who abandoned her -- Andy, her liaison from the livery stable, the blacksmith's son -- sitting among the distinguished guests. Though he recognizes her, Andy does not acknowledge her aloud, and Lily is left reeling, flabbergasted, and irate.

But before she can get an explanation, the path of the Servant Girl Killer swerves very close to Butterfly Palalce, sowing terror among the maids. Having come to Austin to start anew, Lily suddenly feels trapped in a spider web. How can she know who to trust in a house where lies come dressed in fine suits and deceit in silk gowns the colors of butterfly wings?

My Review:

Colleen Coble is a master story weaver and she does it again with this intriguing upstairs/downstairs romantic suspense. An intricate plot features a bevy of sinister activities including a serial killer and political intrigue! And poor Lily finds herself enmeshed in it all. This small town girl gets way more than she bargained for when she moves to the city -- including laying eyes on the fiancé who deserted her. And she can't understand why he has changed his name and is moving in social circles far above his lowly station. Suspense is even intertwined in the romance!

Told from multiple points of view, I was especially intrigued by Belle's story. Pampered and spoiled and coldly conniving, she clashes with Lily at every turn. But circumstances work to soften Belle's hard edges during the course of the novel and I am hoping she will get her own story in the near future.

A lighter faith thread about being refined by struggles weaves some seemingly diverse threads together beautifully. It's amazing how Coble was able to tie up so many loose ends in such a complex plot. I had some things figured out and was feeling quite smug until she surprised me!

Fading Starlight

GIVEAWAY

CUSHMAN, KATHRYN
FADING STARLIGHT

When her big shot blows up on her, how far will one woman go to regain her dream?

Lauren Summers is in hiding. Her fashion house internship was supposed to launch her career, but a red carpet accident has left her blackballed. The only job she can find comes with little pay, but at least it offers a free place to live -- a rundown cottage in the shadow of a cliff-side mansion. Planning to live on savings until she figures out what's next, she's unprepared to be contacted by a reporter.

Kendall Joiner is researching Charlotte Montgomery, a former Hollywood ingénue who lives a reclusive life in the cliff-side mansion. Rumors have swirled for decades about Charlotte, and now Kendall wants to find the real story. In return, she may just have the key to getting Lauren back into the fashion world. Desperate to restore her dreams, Lauren's not sure she can turn down the offer -- but as she and Miss Montgomery get to know more about each other, Lauren realizes nothing is quite as it seems.

My Review:

The glamour of old Hollywood combined with a vintage-inspired fashion designer had my heart singing. In fact, the story had a retro movie feel to it even though it takes place in present day. I love classic films so I couldn't help picturing this novel acted out on the big screen.

And, oh my goodness, what a deliciously uncomfortable read it was! And that's a good thing! The author does a fantastic job of laying out a story filled with pitfalls and second guessing and a whole pile of angst. My jaw hurts from clenching my teeth while anxiously anticipating the proverbial other shoe to drop.

I could so relate to Lauren. Not because of her Ninja sewing skills though. No, we're kindred spirits because we both have trouble discerning promptings from the spirit even when they seem glaringly obvious afterwards. I love that Lauren places such importance in her faith. She prays and studies the bible and seeks ways to reflect Christ's light to those around her. But no matter how hard she tries, she doesn't always get it right. Like there's this one scripture that keeps coming to her mind throughout the book and she keeps dismissing it because she doesn't think it relates to her situation. Only it does! She's just not looking at it from the right perspective. I shouted myself hoarse trying to get her to see the light. All to no avail until it was nearly too late.

Charlotte is an interesting secondary character and I especially enjoyed the flashbacks of her life as a young Hollywood starlet. Brutal life experience has made Charlotte a bitter and judgemental woman. I did not like her at all at first. Felt righteously indignant on Lauren's behalf more than once, but Cushman works some storytelling magic and I began to see beyond the superior airs and grating behavior. Contrary to popular opinion, Charlotte Montgomery does have a heart!

An engaging faith-based story about friendship and faith and hope for the future.

Rescued by the Farmer

GIVEAWAY

ROSS, MIA
RESCUED BY THE FARMER

Her country hero...

Searching for a safe haven in the Kentucky hills, city girl Bekah Holloway encounters the unexpected -- a handsome country boy who offers her help. Drew Kinley gives her a job working with wounded animals, but on the run from an abusive boyfriend, Bekah needs more than employment. She needs a hero. Instinct tells Drew he's the perfect man for the skittish beauty. But he's spent a lifetime saving his family farm and now it's his turn to see the world outside of Oaks Crossing. As Bekah finds her forever home, will Drew leave...or stay and embrace a future together?

Oak Crossing: A small Kentucky town with a big heart

My Review:

Woohoo -- back in Kentucky with the Kinley clan! This is the second book in the Oak's Crossing series. Four siblings get their chance at romance. Love the banter and teasing that comes from a close-knit family. And really enjoyed catching up with Mike and Lily (from the first book).  Rescued by the Farmer reads well as a standalone though, and it is middle brother Drew's turn to have his life turned inside out by a female. There's so much that tickled me about this book.

My animal loving heart was in a constant state of flux over the rescue center setting. Puppies and baby goats and injured hawks...oh my! They captured my heart just as much as the hero did. But I'm fickle that way -- it's easy for cute critters to upstage even the most compelling hero in my eyes. No worries though, Drew got my attention, and, for the record, I trusted him way before Bekah did. But that's not her fault. She has plenty of reasons for being wary.

In fact, Bekah seems as fragile as some of the center's skittish animals. There are some interesting parallels there. And I think it's very fitting that Bekah finally breaks free from her past at a center dedicated to the healing and release of injured and orphaned animals.

Drew's relentless determination to break through her reserve plays an important role in Bekah's transformation. He's hard to resist -- a charming flirt with a compassionate heart. Tenuous friendship develops into sweet romance but not without complications!  Gotta love those bumps in the road that keep a reader avidly turning pages.

A heartwarming romance that celebrates the joy of new beginnings.

A Daring Sacrifice

GIVEAWAY
HEDLUND, JODY
DARING SACRIFICE

The only thing harder than fighting for what’s right…is fighting their feelings for each other.

For three years, the Cloaked Bandit has terrorized Wessex, robbing the nobility by knifepoint and a well-placed arrow. But little dos anyone know, this bandit is in fact Juliana Wessex, the rightful ruler of the land and a girl her tyrannical uncle—the current Lord Wessex—believes was killed along with her father.

Juliana has become skilled at hiding from Lord Wessex in the forest, using her stolen goods to provide food and shelter to the peasants her uncle has taxed into poverty. But when she robs Collin Goodrich, her red hair betrays her true identity. Lord Collin remembers Juliana from their childhood—and challenges her to stay on his estate for a week in hopes she will leave her thieving ways and become a proper lady once more. Juliana is intrigued by Collin and his charms, but only time will tell if he can overcome her distaste of the nobility—as well as win her heart.

My Review:

A dashing Robin Hood-esque tale full of action, romance and faith. While aimed for the YA market, I still really enjoyed this novel. The opening scene got my heart racing and plenty of action quickly follows. Juliana has grown tough and competent during her exile. But she`s a little too sure of herself which leads to trouble with a capital C as in Collin. Sparks fly and wills clash as the knightly hero strives to make things right. Stubborn Juliana is just as determined to cope on her own. Add in a dastardly villain or two, a band of loyal peasants and  enough conflict to keep your blood pressure up and the result is sweet perfection.

Fractured Memory

GIVEAWAY

REDWOOD, JORDYN
FRACTURED MEMORY

Shrouded past...

United States marshal Eli Cayne saved Julia Galloway's life once...and he's prepared to do it again. But his task would be easier if she could remember him -- or the murderer who almost put her in an early grave and seems to be hunting her once more. To protect Julia from the latest threat against her life, Eli has to consider the possibility that he put an innocent man in jail. Julia has no memories of the serial killer called the Hangman, though, and no reason to trust Eli. But with the killer getting closer, she must work with Eli to confront her past -- and the feelings growing between them.

My Review:

This cleverly crafted suspense is riveting! Seriously, I could not put it down. The weeds in my garden are cheering over their reprieve since I spent my gardening time reading instead. This is Jordyn Redwood's debut Love Inspired Suspense novel and it surely won't be her last. The dynamic opening scene fired up my imagination and I just couldn't wait to get to the heart of the suspense...and the romance.

An amnesia story can be a tricky thing -- easy to feel trite, riddled with clichés. Thankfully that isn't the case in Fractured Memory (and perfect title tie-in, by the way!) Redwood does a marvellous job of incorporating Julia's amnesia into the plot. She might be missing key pieces of memory that make her vulnerable but that doesn't mean she's weak. In fact her experiences along with her faith make her one plucky heroine. And Eli finds that very appealing ...and infuriating at times. :-) Great romantical dynamics as these two draw closer while dodging threats at every turn. Love the fact that Eli has memories to fall back on while Julia can't remember him at all. Brings more tension to both the romance and the suspense.

A clever and exciting story that's sure to enthrall romantic suspense readers.

Her One and Only

GIVEAWAY

WADE, BECKY
HER ONE AND ONLY

After ten years in the NFL, superstar Gray Fowler is accustomed to obsessive fans. But when Gray starts receiving death threats from a stalker, his team hires an executive protection agency to guard him until the culprit is caught. Dealing with bodyguards 24/7 is a headache, especially when one of them is a young beautiful woman. How can a female half his size possibly protect him better than he can protect himself?

Dru Porter is a former Marine, an expert markswoman, and a black belt -- none of which saved her from disaster on her last assignment. In order to rebuild her tarnished reputation, she's determined to find Gray's stalker and, since relationships between agents and clients are forbidden, avoid a romantic attachment between herself and the rugged football player with the mysterious past.

Yet every secret that leads Dru closer to the stalker also draws her closer to Gray. As the danger escalates, they'll survive only if they can learn to trust their lives -- and their hearts -- to one another.

My Review:

Contemporary romance with a side of suspense? Yes please! Such delicious fare! A fitting grand finale for the Porter Family Novels, even if it is bittersweet since we have come to the end. I'm going to miss losing myself in the midst of Porter mania. Nothing like sibling banter, incorrigible big brother teasing and the sweet glimpse of three happily ever afters in full bloom. There's also a bonus Meg/Bo side story that had me blubbering like a baby...and expanded this last book to nearly 400 pages. An added bonus of reader bliss for sure!

Haven't read any of the books in this series? (Why ever not?!) No worries -- you can still enjoy Dru and Gray's story. You just won't get the full Porter impact that will leave seasoned fans cheering.

Okay -- it's true confession time. I wasn't that into Gray....at first. Hunky football player with plenty of charisma -- sure. But his attitude left me cold. He's everything you might imagine a mega super sports star to be. Way too macho for his own good. Women and booze and a love 'em and leave 'em mentality did not endear him to me. But Wade works her magic -- in fact there's one teensy little piece of information at the very beginning that I clung to. It gave me hope for the scarred soul of a man clearly on the run.

Dru is the perfect foil for Gray. She's tough and feisty and not about to take any nonsense from her latest client. Some of the best dialogue ever in a contemporary romance. Unexpected jabs of humour in the midst of intense conversation had me chortling out loud. And no subject was taboo -- they talked about sex and faith with equal candor. And that's what I love about Wade's characters -- she writes them real and flawed and grappling with the same issues the rest of us are.

Dru is a recommitted Christian. She's made significant changes in her life and achieved a certain level of peace with who she is and what her faith means to her. Gray thinks of himself as a Christian, but his lifestyle doesn't speak of conviction. His faith journey is profound. It brought to light the fact that Jesus can make a difference in even the most jaded and broken heart. And Gray has a lot of hurt. His story, slowly revealed throughout the book, explains a lot and I found myself feeling ashamed for judging him so harshly when I first met him. (Yes, I know he's a character and this is a novel but it feels that real to me!)

An incredible conclusion to an unforgettable series that I'm sure to read over and over again.
