Vanishing Point

GIVEAWAY
HARRIS, LISA
VANISHING POINT

Six girls missing...and every clue leads to a dead end

During Garrett Addison's first week on the of as a criminal investigator for the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, his team is called out to a murder scene of a young girl. She's just one in a string of disappearances with one thing in common -- a Polaroid photo of each victim left behind at the crime scene.

The FBI is pulled into the case to help, and Garrett finds himself working with Special Agent Jordan Lambert, the woman he once loved. When yet another girl dies, Garrett wonders whether he really has what it takes to be an agent. Maybe he should just walk. But while he may be done with the killer, the killer is not done with him -- or Jordan.

My Review:

What a truly unique conclusion to the Nikki Boyd series! Or you might consider Vanishing Point the first book not the fourth since Harris takes us back to the beginning of the Angel Abductor's killing spree so this is definitely one you can read without having read any of the other books. This is a gripping look at the meticulous work that goes into crime solving. And it's realistic. The story spans a decade as the agents play a game of cat-and-mouse with their mysterious killer.

And that means the romance spans a decade as well! It never seems to be the right time or place for Jordan and Garrett to pursue a relationship. Not that the chemistry isn't right or feelings don't run deep. It's more about the two of them thinking the past should remain in the past and that dueling careers would make it impossible to settle down together. I seriously wanted to bash some heads together. Kidnap them and lock them in a closet until they sorted things out. Ten years, people! Ten years of longing and wondering and secretly loving but not admitting to it. Honestly, my poor romantical heart was wrung out by the end. But, oh my, was it ever worth it!!!!

As Jordon and Garrett struggle to stop a serial killer they wrestle with the age old question of how God can allow such awful things to happen. I appreciated the recurring theme of finding God in the hard places -- making spiritual sense amidst the senseless. Harris doesn't provide any pat answers, just the hope in a future with God to see us through.

And a special shout out for a diverse cast of characters. Especially appreciate Jordan's African American/Brazilian heritage. I've been looking for a more realistic world view in my Christian fiction for a long time so I'm thrilled that publishers are finally delivering.

The kind of romantic suspense that keeps you on your toes right to the very last page. A compulsive read from start to finish.
